Lumix GH7 Review for Street Interviews in Tokyo
If you film fast-paced street interviews in busy areas of Tokyo, the Lumix GH7 is an incredible workhorse. I use this camera for my own interviews around Shibuya, Shinjuku, and other neon-lit neighborhoods, and it has become my main street interview setup.

Night Photography & Neon Bokeh Example
The photo below is a good example of what this camera-and-lens combination can do at night in Tokyo. The GH7 paired with the Olympus M.Zuiko 25mm f/1.2 PRO portrait lens delivers sharp, well-exposed subjects with smooth neon bokeh in the background.

This combination takes beautiful nighttime footage, especially in areas filled with colorful signage and moving crowds.
Frame Rates & Technical Capabilities
The Lumix GH7 supports high-resolution video modes that are perfect for cinematic street interviews and flexible reframing in post:
- 5.7K at 60 fps (or 50 fps in PAL regions like Tokyo)
- Open Gate 4:3 5.8K at 30 fps (or 25 fps PAL)
These modes give you plenty of resolution for cropping, vertical and horizontal delivery, and high-quality YouTube content.
Autofocus, Stabilization & Battery Life
When you are running street interviews, you need to focus on the conversation, not the camera. The GH7 helps with:
- Fast face-detection autofocus that rapidly locks onto your subject
- Reliable continuous AF that keeps faces sharp even as people move
- Excellent in-body stabilization for handheld shooting
- Long battery life, which is essential for long nights filming around the city
Since I usually shoot handheld and concentrate on the interview itself, I rely on the GH7 to handle autofocus. Fortunately, it detects faces quickly and keeps them in perfect focus while I stay present with the person I am talking to.
Sample Street Interview Video
Here is a real-world example filmed using this Lumix GH7 and Olympus 25mm f/1.2 setup in Tokyo:

Notice the beautiful colors, sharpness and exposure on the subject, and how the neon lights in the background melt into a smooth bokeh. The footage feels cinematic while still being fast and practical for run-and-gun interviews.
Audio: DJI Mic 3 for Clean Dialogue
Great audio is just as important as great video. For interviews in noisy Tokyo streets, I pair the GH7 with the DJI Mic 3.
This wireless system provides:
- Clear vocal pickup even in busy environments
- Strong noise rejection to keep the focus on your subject
- Reliable, low-latency wireless performance
- A compact form factor that is easy to clip on and forget

Who This Setup Is For
This Lumix GH7 + Olympus 25mm f/1.2 + DJI Mic 3 combo is ideal if you:
- Film street interviews, vox pops, or documentary-style content
- Shoot a lot in urban environments with mixed and low light
- Want a compact but powerful rig you can carry all night
- Prefer reliable autofocus and stabilization so you can focus on the story
If you are building a kit for street interviews in Tokyo or any other big city, this setup is one I can confidently recommend.
